BOOK GLUTTON BETA Launch Party

We’re having a BG Beta Launch Party this weekend — and what would a party be without a cake? A book-cake, no less?

In actuality the site is still about 2 weeks away from Private Beta, but it seemed like a good time to cut loose, drink mojitios, and stand back and talk with those who have ridden the rollercoaster with us the last nine months.

The site is looking excellent and working (mostly), so we’re all in good spirits at BG HQ.

Thanks to David Rothman for the write up on TeleBlog — the definitive e-book information source. He and Aaron have been corresponding over standards lately, so we shared a little bit of info about the Unbound Reader last week.

Here’s a link to the article: http://www.teleread.org/blog/?p=6778

Site Wireframes

We’re wrapping up development and about to kiss the wall-o-wireframes goodbye! This is good news; it’s not only refreshing, but it makes the office more appealing. The air conditioning at Book Glutton HQ tends to buffet the little buggers around and we’re looking forward to getting our wall back.

The Lucky Bonzai

Book Glutton got lucky at this year’s IDPF! We won the conference prize that Learning Worlds was generously giving away: a giant Bonzai tree, which you can see in the photo from Travis’s phone. It’s patiently waiting for the team in a buddy’s Brooklyn apartment.

Glamorous Cellphone Shot

Two weeks ago Book Glutton attended the International Digital Publishing Forum Conference (IDPF) at McGraw-Hill HQ in NYC, or what we’ve been collectively referring to as the “Ebook conference.” There were a number of good presentations organized around devices, digital standards, newspapers and libraries, although not enough time for Q+A. C’est La Vie.

BG was there to check out the scene and see where the industry leaders were heading. It was fairly encouraging; the presenters spoke with rabid excitement and an eye toward the future. The discussion was surprisingly device-centric, though. You know, the Internet Browser already exists, as does the Laptop, so why not tap into it rather than reinventing the wheel? Enough said.

You can check out some of the presentations here.

Hi Folks. Welcome to the Book Glutton Blog. The BG project, conceived in early October, has been in development for a few months now. Aaron and I are well on our way and although the To Do list is growing at an unchecked rate, the end is in sight. We’ll be posting new developments here first, so check back and let us know what you think.
